News and Events Request for Information - AI Infrastructure Platform REANNZ has launched an ambitious plan for the creation of an AI Infrastructure Platform to accelerate discovery, innovation and growth across the research, innovation and education sectors. The business has today (24 November) issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the procurement of national level graphical processing unit (GPU) capability. The RFI represents a potential investment of GPUs at a scale not currently seen in New Zealand. Chief Executive Amber McEwen says the investment is critical for advancing research and education in New Zealand as modern scientific and data-intensive disciplines are increasingly reliant on high-performance computing. “In our conversations with the sector, they have been clear they want to see REANNZ become a focal point for collective action to solve common technology challenges. This includes leveraging the collective strength of the sector around infrastructure investments,” she says. “This RFI is our first step toward delivering on these expectations. “This investment will enable New Zealand to compete internationally and will enable researchers to collaborate in international projects. With centralised access to GPUs, we will be able to scale to meet demand and make provision for the protection of New Zealand data sovereignty. In turn this will support us to attract, develop and retain world-leading research talent and capture potential economic growth opportunities.” A requirement of any potential solution is that it will integrate with and augment existing national eResearch infrastructure and the REANNZ network.
