News and Events Added resilience between the North and South Islands REANNZ has boosted the resilience of its network with the addition of a third core link across the Cook Strait. The ‘back-up’ link runs from Nelson to Levin, bypassing Wellington, where the existing two links enter the North Island. In doing so, it provides an alternative path for REANNZ to maintain connectivity for members in the South Island, in the event of an emergency or major fault. CE Amber McEwen says this has been part of a larger programme of work to increase network resiliency and support members to stay connected. “In many cases, REANNZ is the only connectivity provider for members so it is important we have adequate back-up available should the worst happen.” The new link will primarily be used in the event of emergency but will be able to deliver an adequate level of connectivity should the other two links be taken out of service. The link appears on the REANNZ ‘Weather map’ of data movement as shown below.
