Systems Administrator

We have a great opportunity for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at REANNZ.

REANNZ is New Zealand’s National Research and Education Network (NREN), one of 120 NRENs worldwide, and we connect research and education organisations across New Zealand. REANNZ provides a high-performance specialist network, tools, and services that facilitate data intensive research and global collaboration. Through REANNZ, New Zealand’s scientists, researchers and educators are able to connect, collaborate and contribute via their access to a world-wide network of research and education infrastructure. 

This role is within the Systems and Development team who are responsible for both the business and operational systems that keep REANNZ running. It involves supporting internal infrastructure and developing, documenting, and implementing new tools and processes. In this role you will be responsible for delivery of services internally and to the REANNZ community.

This full-time role will be based out of our Wellington CBD office. We offer a collegial environment, flexible working and interesting projects. You'll be working with an extremely experienced technical team and will have opportunities to contribute across the organisation and learn from some of the best.

The person we are looking for will be positive and customer-focussed, demonstrate integrity and honesty, and be a collaborative team player who treats others with the highest levels of courtesy and professionalism.

To be considered for this role you will need the following technical skills and experience:

  • Detailed understanding of Linux based systems, ideally Debian based

  • Software development, ideally using Python or Go

  • Automating Linux systems, ideally using Ansible

  • Server hardware platforms and data centres

  • Administering virtualisation platforms, ideally VMWare and LXD

  • Common services such as Radius, DNS, NGINX, PostgreSQL

  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Apple Mac desktop environments
