Testing of the network during the important proof of concept phase is progressing well.  TelstraClear and Verizon Business, working with a dedicated team from University of Auckland, University of Canterbury, Scion in Rotorua, and REANNZ staff, have succeeded in:

• lighting up the fibre connection nationally across the backbone between Auckland and Canterbury and internationally through to North America and Australia
• running Access Grid sessions from multiple locations
• streaming high definition video over IPv4 multicast
• checking network protocols
• testing JumboFrame handling.

We are gaining valuable experience and uncovering some of the practicalities of connecting to and using KAREN.  The learnings gained will be shared with the community through refined policies, connection support documents and workshops.

The Proof of Concept will end on 1 September following its support of the public launch event on 31 August.
