Research, education and business connection options

An Innovative Business, Research Organisation, Library, Museum, Archive, Technology Park, Incubator, Polytechnic, ITO, Government Department, or Content and Service Provider can connect to our network via the Distribution Layer.

Direct connection through the Distribution Layer

Build your own connection

Members connect directly from their site (or sites) to one of 12 distribuion routers at PoP sites around the country. These routers are managed by REANNZ, allowing REANNZ to visibility of who and how people access the network.

The member is responsible for the access circuit between the edge router at the their site and the network PoP, and for management of their own edge routing. Members must also have their own IPv4 address range.

Best network experience, but expertise required

This option will give you the cleanest connection option and will ensure the maximum network experience (lowest jitter and latency), but it is technically more challenging and will have higher overheads. You will need either internal or external contracted expertise to connect and for ongoing management.

You need to get to the network

You need to secure an access circuit between your site and one of the 12 Points of Presense (PoPs) at which there is a distribution router.

Cost estimate

The estimated one off connection costs may be between $6,000 - $35,000. This does not include your membership fee or ongoing infrastructure and support costs.
