The Internet and Advanced Networking workshop wiki

This workshop is designed and run by Packet Clearing House from San Francisco and is lead by some of the world’s leading Internet and infrastructure specialists, it has been delivered scores of times, from Nepal to San Francisco and everywhere in between.

At the end of the workshop it is expected attendees will have a much greater understanding of Inter-networking and the technologies that build the Internet and how to deploy them.

The workshop will cover the following:

  • Internet infrastructure and how the net is put together, how transit providers connect, who pays who and the economics of connectivity
  • Peering, transit and network economics
  • Provisioning - How you build an network service and Inter-network, how the routers and their functions build the Internet and how you can do it
  • IPv4 and IPv6 and their relevance to the changing world

Your tutors

Jonny Martin

Based in Berkeley CA, Jonny Martin is responsible for INOC-DBA operations and technical development, as well as supporting the day to day operations of the PCH anycast DNS network. He has previously held senior network engineering roles with national service and critical infrastructure providers in New Zealand. Besides PCH, he serves as a Councillor for InternetNZ, on the board of directors for the Asia and Pacific Internet Association, and on the program and organising committees of NZNOG and APRICOT.

 

Gaurab Raj Upadhaya

Based in Kathmandu, Gaurab's primary work is in Internet backbone operations, analysing peering relationships between operators and roles of Internet Exchange Points in different parts of Asia. Much of the work involves training ISPs in developing countries about best practices on network operations. He initiated the Nepal Internet Exchange (npIX) and currently serves as its CTO and is the Technical Director of the Nepal Research and Education Network.
He currently chairs , and is the vice-chair of Asia Pacific Internet Association, and Management Committee member for APRICOT, the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies.
